A Horse of a Different Color

Every once in a while I see a movie that is edge-of-the-seat exciting… even though I know how it will turn out before I walk into the theater.

Secretariat is such a movie. Wow!

The human interest side of the story was strong, and heartwarming to boot. Diane Lane did a great job in the lead role.

But I particularly liked the “horse’s eye view” of the important races he won. Watching him come thundering down the stretch — and remembering that this is a grass-and-oat fueled animal, not a machine! — was awesome.

As well as inspiring: seeing a great athlete get in the groove and perform at the top of his or her game is wonderful. Even when the athlete isn’t human :).
