Ach! Who Would’ve Thought!

Churchill famously observed that the UK and the USA are two nations separated by a common language. I found that particularly true in Edinburgh, where if I didn’t concentrate and focus when a native was speaking to me I often couldn’t understand what was being said. The experience made me wonder what I sounded like to the locals. Not good, I bet :).

But apparently that rich Scottish accent has to be taught. How else would you explain this venerable-looking institution, which I spotted on the last day of our trip?

BTW, note the stylized creature surmounting the sign. The national animal of Scotland is… the unicorn. An imaginary beast.

Or maybe not so imaginary. It is the land of the Loch Ness Monster, after all.
