I’ve had a bad cold/sinus infection/cough for most of the last three weeks. It wasn’t awful enough to get me to go to the doctor. Although that’s partially because the medical group I’ve been using since I moved to the Bay area always seems to want me to be sicker for longer than I am before they’ll prescribe antibiotics…
In any event, I thought I was recovering. Until last Saturday morning, when I took a turn for the worse.
Since I figured my “traditional” doctor would still find a way to justify not prescribing me antibiotics I decided to go to Immediate Care, a walk-in clinic in San Mateo. I’d been there before when I cut my finger really badly, and liked the doctor I saw. Besides, it was Saturday, and I would’ve had a hard time getting into my normal doctor’s office before Monday.
I was in and out quickly. More importantly, I left with a scrip for some Azithromycin. You may know it as Zithromax, which is Pfizer’s tradename for the compound. Of course, now that the patent’s expired you can buy Teva’s knock-off for $8 a treatment cycle (six pills) under most healthcare plans.
But whatever you call it, be sure to call it awesome, because that’s what it is. It’s never failed to blast whatever infection I’m laboring under to smithereens, usually in less than 24 hours. Way to go, Z!
